This section of the Gov2 Expo centered around how Gov 2.0 (or web 2.0 apps) can be used to put the government in a position where it can be a partner, and partner with the community to solve community problems, answer community questions, etc.
Arkansas Recovery Portal, Online & iPhone Application
App is recovery.arkansas.gov, an app so you can see where the $2.9 Billion in funds that are going to the state are being spent. And when you have a state with 2.8 million people, that’s over $1000/ea, and as such you’d want to know where in the heck that money is going.
Whoa – put off by one comment. She said they monitor their web analytics once per week to see where the spikes are. I think I referesh my Google Analytics every 10 minutes – can’t believe they can wait so long and still respond to a live social service!
Neighbors for Neighbors: Connecting Neighbors to each other and government resources
Built a network to connect neighbors to neighbors, to build connections that can help people actually solve problems. The idea is to connect people to others in city hall and to bring people together in THAT neighborhood to actually get things done – not just to talk about them.

This is to track & implement local-level service requests. The idea on open data is that you can solve public problems without government engagements. Citizen-driven issue tracking is another outshoot of this, so that issues in a city are tracked in the same way you track issues with an open-source software project. It’s like BugZilla for an entire city!
