Segment Architecture

Rapid Road to Real Business Results

Segment architecture was developed to give agencies a faster and less risky route to improved use of IT assets as opposed to a full-blown enterprise architecture. It is a business-driven process that focuses on a part or segment of an agency, and is designed to reach the target architecture within the segment in 3-5 years, producing measurable business benefits at milestones throughout the process.

Webworld's team of architecture experts and analysts has extensive experience with segment architecture and can assist you through the five-step process as defined in the Federal Segment Architecture Methodology and illustrated in Figure 1 below.

This includes identifying the baseline and target architectures, developing a transition plan that produces measurable business benefits as you approach the target, and actually executing the transition plan.

Segment Architecture Reporting and Mapping Requirements

OMB Circular A-11, sections 53 and 300, requires Federal agencies to align their IT investments to the FEA Reference Models and segment architecture. As shown in Figure 2 below, this can be a complex, time consuming process, requiring expertise and great attention to detail.

We can also assist you with all of your mandatory Exhibit 53 and Exhibit 300 reporting and the associated required mapping of your architecture project to the Federal Enterprise Architecture Reference Models.

We can take care of these details so you don't have to.
